1. What SubBrief Does
SubBrief connects to your YouTube account to show your subscriptions and generate AI-powered video summaries. We request read-only access to your YouTube subscriptions — we never post, delete, or modify anything on your account.
2. Data We Collect
- YouTube Account Info — Your Google account ID (used to identify your account) and OAuth tokens (used to fetch your subscriptions).
- Subscription & Video Data — The channels you choose to track and their recent public videos.
- Summaries — AI-generated summaries of public YouTube videos. Summaries are cached on our server so they can be served instantly.
- Topic Preferences — The interest topics you select during onboarding, stored locally on your device.
- Bug Reports — If you submit a bug report, we collect the description you provide along with your app version, iOS version, and device model.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not use advertising trackers or analytics SDKs.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. How We Use Your Data
- To display your YouTube subscriptions and new videos in your feed.
- To generate and cache AI summaries of public videos.
- To recommend videos in the Discover tab based on your interests and viewing patterns.
- To send you optional push notifications about new videos from your tracked channels.
5. Google API Services — Limited Use Disclosure
SubBrief's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Specifically, SubBrief:
- Only uses YouTube data to provide and improve the app's core functionality (displaying your subscriptions and generating video summaries).
- Does not transfer YouTube data to third parties, except as necessary to provide the app's functionality (e.g., sending publicly available transcripts to Google Gemini for summarization).
- Does not use YouTube data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the app's functionality.
- Does not allow humans to read your YouTube data unless you provide affirmative consent, it is necessary for security purposes, or it is required by law.
6. Third-Party Services
- Google / YouTube API — To authenticate your account and fetch subscription data. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Gemini — To generate video summaries. Video transcripts (publicly available on YouTube) are sent to Google's Gemini API for summarization.
- Supabase — Our database provider, hosted in Frankfurt (EU). Stores user profiles, tracked channels, and cached summaries.
- Fly.io — Our server hosting provider, located in Frankfurt (EU).
7. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). We use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission. OAuth tokens are stored securely in our database and are never exposed to other users.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
When you sign out of SubBrief, your OAuth tokens are removed from our server. You can request complete deletion of your account data by contacting us at the email below. Video summaries may be retained as they are not personal data (they summarize public videos).
9. Your Rights
You can revoke SubBrief's access to your YouTube account at any time through your Google Account permissions. Under GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data.
10. Children's Privacy
SubBrief is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
